Operation Casey
Staple-o-Meter:
June 7, 2007 - After
having been to the vet with all five, I
thought I'd be free of vet trips for some time. Until I grabbed
Casey from his favourite hiding spot exactly a
week ago, and felt something solid on his backside. I discovered he had a
"huge" lump very nearby the strange sorta blister he already had
on his skin. It must've grown there in only one-and-a-half weeks tops, so
it seemed really fast-growing.
I took Casey to the
vet the next day, and she did a
biopsy, and although the biopsy was inconclusive she thought it was a
tumour. Nevertheless we decided to try antibiotics for a couple of days, to
see if the lump would shrink, in which case it would be an abscess and not
a tumour. But it didn't shrink, although it also didn't seem to grow
anymore. Casey had also lost some
weight since his
previous visit to the vet, but fortunately
his decrease in weight had also stopped.
So yesterday I returned to the
vet, and after consulting her I
decided to have the tumour removed. This despite
Casey's age, he's turned
80 human
years today. So Casey was operated today around noon. Everything went
very well, the vet even removed the strange thingy on his skin. I collected
Casey from the vet's early this afternoon, and took him with me back to
work, so I could keep an eye on him. At work he stayed inside my transport
basket, but when I got home I set up the new
hospital cage for him. He's still in there
now, staggering about, eating bits, drinking a little; he's doing really
great. :-D
Meanwhile Chester's
inflammated eye is also slowly healing, so I guess the days of the
"C" dynasty aren't over yet after
all.
